More than four centuries after the brilliant star explosion, this supernova remnant still shines!

This composite image combines infrared and X-ray observations.

Through this colour code you can have an idea of what’s happening:

Green and Yellow: a hot cloud of expanding debris

Blue: the blast’s outer shockwave made of ultra-energetic electrons

Red: newly created dust and pre-existing dust
