The Art in Astronomy
If you have been following SpaceInfo for a few time on our Instagram account @spaceinfo.club (psst… go follow us if you’re not!) you will have probably noticed we are often collaborating with Oksana Korda (@oksana_korda… yes you guessed: go follow her too!). She’s a very brilliant photographer and artist and she is sharing her view of our universe through the eyes of an artist: her digital creations are just amazing! We are very happy to have Oksana Korda among the members of the SpaceInfo Club and she is the guest of this SpaceInfo Newsletter!
Now it’s time to let her talk about what she does: enjoy as much as we did!
“Space and the Universe have fascinated me since I was a child. I started creating digital space art when I visited Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, in Jan 2022. I got completely blown away by its alien landscapes. Every moment of my stay there, I felt like I was on another planet. It was the time when I started thinking about what views we might see if we were on another planet.
One day I went down to the center of one of the volcanic craters. I was sitting there completely alone, in a place that existed millions of years before me and probably will be there millions of years after me. Not a soul around for a mile. Quiet. Where else can one think of eternity? All those profound questions that have been asked for millennia, started popping up in my head… What is the nature of the Universe? Is the destiny of humankind bound to Earth? Are we and our planet unique? Is there life elsewhere in the Universe?”

When you imagine this, you can feel the mightiness of space and its power
When we think about eternity, an image of an endless black canvas with luminous bodies and multi-colored nebulae immediately appears in our heads. When you imagine this, you can feel the mightiness of space and its power. I strongly believe that space art is one of the most interesting and unique forms of art out there. It has the ability to move people to different places and times.
After returning home, I still could feel an incredibly strong connection with mighty space itself. I started to create art depicting different scenes in the Universe.
I use 3D rendering because it can provide excellent reference images to ensure scene perspective and lighting are correct for a given view. I devote my art to visualizing the wonders of outer space.
And for me, creating space art is even better than just sitting in a center of a volcanic crater, because every time I create a new picture of a distant planet, a beautiful galaxy, or a strange nebula, I don’t just sit in my room. It feels like I don’t sit at all, I fly. And this is my way of taking others on a space flight with me. I hope that my works manage to convey a sense of wonder and impending adventure awaiting humanity when we go to the boundless cosmic ocean.”
